Sitting besides the Renuka Lake, I was tracking this Pond Heron trying to fish. Just where this Pond Heron was fishing for small fish, was a big fish, getting near the Heron. Wow… it was a very funny and interesting site when this big fish attacked the heron and the heron all shaken up jumped……(Click on the images to see enlarged versions and the entire gallery)

09 Apr 2010 The Morning Hunt

This morning I had to wake up early even after a very late night…. Reason…. My father spotted a Bird of Paradise Flycatcher. Well excited to capture the beautiful bird, I picked up my camera and ran to the park. Unfortunately before I could reach the park, the bird had flown away and we could not reach the place where it was sitting (oops Girls Hostel). Anyways it was not a waste trip as it was the time for some birds to feed and I saw some action of Green Bee Eater and Jungle Babbler catching their prey. Got the opportunity to take a real good close up of the Jungle Babbler.

This Sunday was an exciting experience. I went for a walk in the Berwala Bird Safari near Panchkula. Starting of the walk I saw a few known birds like Drongos, Bushchats, Bulbuls and some really pretty unknown birds which I still trying to find out what they are…. But the best sight in the entire walk was the BIG Steppe Eagle. This was the biggest eagle that I saw in my entire life. These eagles are known to grow to about 81 Cms. That is close to Egyption Vulture, Manvir Randhawa, Canon 7D, 70-3003 feet and have a wing span of about 180 cms.

Another bird of interest was the Egyptian Vulture. The Vultures have kind of vanished from the region of Punjab thanks to the antibiotic injection that the cattle gets. Anyway these birds were nesting in that region and it was a real pleasure to see them in that number.
